Today we are celebrating Chinese New Year Eve whereby all the chinese and has had influence on the new year celebrations of its geographic neighbors, as well as cultures with whom the chinese have had extensive interation. These include Koreans, Tibetans and Bhutanese, Mongolians, Vietnamese and the Japanese.

Chinese New Year's Eve, a day where Chinese families gather for their annual reunion dinner, is known as Chu Xi or 'Eve of the Passing Year'.

Yusheng is considered a symbol of abundance, prosperity & vigor. All diners at the table then stand up and on cue, proceed to toss the shredded ingredients into the air with chopsticks while saying various "auspicious wishes" out loud. It is believed that the height of the toss reflects the height of the diner's growth in fortunes, thus diners are expected to toss enthusiastically.

Fireworks? It is kind of celebration of the Chinese New Year eve which are awesome & beautiful. Almost all the houses celebrating this eve will burn the fireworks & firecrackers as the symbolic & one of the way of celebrating it.

For the year of 2011 - rabbit year; I would like to wish Happy Chinese New Year to my chinese relative in Miri & Marudi, colleagues & ex-colleagues of Standard Chartered Bank (Miri & Kuching Branch), ex-colleagues & ex-students of Informatics College (Miri Branch) and all Malaysians.
